And if you think I am joking, I’m NOT!

I attempt to put my phone down but I nearly drowned in a puddled kitchen counter. The dish rack is in an array with glass on top of plastic Rubbermaid Tupperware. Knives with forks, food stuck in the sink and the faucet remains stained. Yes, through all this chaos the dishes may have been cleaned. However, there is a better and/or more organized way to tackle such obstacle. This can make it easy for you and others, especially if you are sharing this common space.

P.S. Although I may feel it’s required, NO misandry in this article! I am aware that there are men that keep order in the home, they do exist somewhere.

Let us start this complex process…

We must begin with emptying the dish rack and placing dry dishes where they belong. Please remember to do this first. Collect ALL dirty cups/dishes that may not have made it to the sink, because it makes sense to wash those as well. There is no picking and choosing what to wash, ADULT. Why half do it to cause someone else to pick up your slack, ADULT?

Now I could care less about the temp of the water, note you do not need an excessive amount of dish soap. No bubble bath is required for the task at hand as it may be when we bathe our bodies.

NOTE: Dishes must stand or be faced down in order to dry. This will prevent puddles in the dish rack.

No need to physically organize your dirty dishes, but mentally do so. Starting from the back of the rack, plates go first. Your order may be diff because your rack is different, so mainly keep order. Next, are bowls and glass dishes which go directly in front of the plates. We then move on to wash and place cups on the side of the rack (faced down). Now for the utensil compartment, I have three. I would think it would be common sense, but it is not. The compartment furthest from the sink should have the knives and pointy objects (faced down), strainers, etc. The first two compartments are specifically for forks and spoons. Things that will not cause an injury due to you simply reaching for a plate.

When you have order, it is much easier as well as less time-consuming to handle and complete a task.

I hope you don’t think you’re done.

Rinse all soap and lingering food out of the sink. Wipe down the faucet. DO NOT WIPE COUNTER WITH THE DISH SPONGE, disgusting. Have and use a countertop rag, ONLY for the counter. This rag you sanitize and clean daily. While you’re at it, wipe the stove down, wipe and shine the fridge, sweep the floor, clean the kitchen table. I chuckle because it is in fact more to washing dishes than just washing dishes. Doing so is cleaning the entire kitchen! Don’t be a half-ass.
